THOUSANDS OF YOUNG MSM IN BANGKOK, JAKARTA AND MANILA PLEDGE TO TAKE HIV TEST, THANKS TO TESTXXX’S “TAKING IT” CAMPAIGN Getting young gay men in three of South East Asia’s megacities (Bangkok, Manila and Jakarta) to encourage their friends to take an HIV test was the aim of a new testXXX’s online campaign, Taking It, that’s being rolled out for World AIDS Day (Dec 1). The Taking It campaign was aimed to involve numerous social media influencers in each city who are popular among young gay men. The influencers taking part in each city include YouTube vloggers, drag queens, fashion models, fitness experts and TikTok personalities, to name a few. While testMNLkept the name Taking It(given the English proficiency of their YMSM audience), testBKKand testJKTadjusted the campaign’s name intoชวนกล้าท้ามาตรวจand BERSAMASAMA,respectively. |

APCOM AND THE ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK DISCUSSED LGBTQI INCLUSION APCOM and Babaylanes, our Philippine country partner for Finance Inc., met with Asian Development Bank representatives to discuss opportunities for engagements and partnerships on LGBTQI inclusion last December 18, 2018. The meetings were opportunities for APCOM to introduce Finance Inc., a project which aims to engage financial institutions including the Asian Development Bank on LGBTQI inclusion. APCOM was able to meet with the gender and development teams from the ADB headquarters, Philippine Country Office, and the Southeast Asia Gender Anchor.

TESTBKK LAUNCHES HARM REDUCTION RESOURCES FOR THAI MSM As a response to the chemsex situation among MSM in Thailand, testBKK has developed non-judgemental, non-coercive harm reduction information resources in Thai language in order to assist MSM who engage in chemsex and any other kind of illicit drug consumption in reducing drug-associated harm and to encourage them to access HIV testing, prevention, and treatment services. |

As announced at the HERO Awards, we want to thank you, our friends and partner for supporting and helping raise funds for APCOM’s work. However, unfortunately, APCOM is currently facing a rather uncertain financial future. Many international funding organizations and governments have decreased their financial support for HIV programs in the Asia Pacific, and this difficult environment for funding will persist for the foreseeable future
Despite our best efforts for resource mobilisation, the funding we require for much of our HIV prevention and LGBTI rights work has not come through. This means our vital impact on the HIV and human rights response in this region is seriously diminished.
