MEDIA CONFERENCE TO FEATURE LGBT RIGHTS CAMPAIGNERS FROM THAILAND, TAIWAN, VIETNAM, JAPAN AND PHILIPPINES
BANGKOK, Friday 23 November 2018: Media representative are invited to attend a special media conference in Bangkok on Monday 3 December about how LGBT rights activists will be advancing the cause of same sex marriage in Thailand and across Asia.
30 marriage equality advocates from across Asia will attend a meeting in Bangkok from 1 – 3 December to help improve the campaign for marriage equality in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia. Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. The meeting is being produced by APCOM – a leading Asia Pacific HIV and LGBT rights community network based in Bangkok – and international marriage equality advocacy organisation Freedom to Marry Global.

At the media conference, six (6) leading activists from Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan and Philippines as well as a representative from Thailand’s Ministry of Justice will join a panel to discuss how efforts to achieve marriage equality in Thailand and other countries in Asia are progressing and what can be done to advance the cause of same sex marriage in Thailand and across the region.
Marriage equality is a hot topic right now in Asia with Thailand’s government soon to announce the details of a Civil Partnership Bill for same sex couples, and Taiwan’s referendum on same sex marriage happening on November 24. Both these issues will be discussed during the media conference. Activists will also discuss campaign strategies, lessons that have been learned from other countries, and how they plan to change the hearts and minds of people and legislators in Thailand and across the region.
