APCOM 2018 ANNUAL REPORT IS NOW AVAILABLE !2018 marked a year of consolidation for APCOM across a range of initiatives and objectives. One of the most important was the development and launch of TENACITY, our Strategic Framework for 2018-2020. This vital organisational framework will guide our work over the next few years and commits APCOM to taking a bold, ambitious and tenacious approach to building a more effective response to the health and rights of gay men, other men who have sex with men and LGBTI people across Asia and the Pacific.

PULSE up! Project Launch
APCOM launches PULSE Up! project in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam with the
financial assistance received from ViiV Healthcare and PITCH project via Frontline AIDS. PULSE Up! encompasses research, community capacity strengthening, and advocacy that aims to improve HIV response for young gay and bisexual men in the Greater Mekong Region. The data generated from the project will be used to inform preventive intervention activities as well as building advocacy capacity for improved national HIV programmes to ensure that young gay and bisexual men can access the services that is catered to their needs, in particular at the national Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) dialogues.
Crucial upcoming activity involves date collection and evidence on young MSM in Myanmar and Vietnam to bridge the data gap of this target group. |

Key population networks in Cambodia seeks more involvement for Global Fund funding request KHANA with the technical assistance support APCOM organised a series of workshops to bridge understanding of the Global Fund funding request and processes, and ensuring that the key population voices are not just being heard but also reflected in the funding request and programming.
Workshops included representatives from KP (Key population) networks, CCM secretariat, KP representatives of CCM, and other key stakeholders such Sub, and sub sub recipients.
Participants hold the opinion that there is a limited participation or involvement from the communities of MSM and transgender people, and other key populations in the discussions of Global Fund funding request (2018 – 2020). Key population often lacks capacity and resources to gather information and evidence about the quality of services under the national grant which hinders effective engagement in Global Fund funding request (2018- 2020). Furthermore, it has successfully surfaced very specific
needs of key population communities which would help them meaningfully participate in the Global Fund funding request. Through these events, KHANA strengthened the knowledge and skills of community participants on Global Fund project, and Global Fund funding request. KHANA also looking forward to provide technical assistance support to participants to help them effectively participate in the Global Fund funding request. |

Revisiting Christianity, Sexual Diversity and Access to Health Services The Discussion Paper recommended the principles of love seeking understanding and listening from the heart as basic frameworks for churches in negotiating issues of gender variance, sexual diversity and HIV. It also suggested practical steps that churches could take such non-discriminatory education on gender and sexuality, open dialogue and co-journeying with MSM, TG and PLHIV as well as a deep listening to their issues, anti-discriminatory statements, collaborating with educational institutions to end bullying, enlisting the help of biblical and theological experts to learn of affirming and supportive Christian interpretations, allowing more MSM, TG and PLHIV to take up ministerial and leadership positions, and working together with them in issues of human rights, social justice, and HIV awareness, care and treatment. |

As announced at the HERO Awards, we want to thank you, our friends and partner for supporting and helping raise funds for APCOM’s work. However, unfortunately, APCOM is currently facing a rather uncertain financial future. Many international funding organizations and governments have decreased their financial support for HIV programs in the Asia Pacific, and this difficult environment for funding will persist for the foreseeable future
Despite our best efforts for resource mobilisation, the funding we require for much of our HIV prevention and LGBTI rights work has not come through. This means our vital impact on the HIV and human rights response in this region is seriously diminished.
